I’ve come to realize that there’s a serious identity crisis going on today…
Identity is defined in the Webster’s dictionary as “The distinguishing character or personality of an individual.”
Last post I touched on guarding your mind by using the Word of God to combat the lies of the enemy. The Bible calls him the father of all lies in John 8:44 “… He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
I can’t stress enough how extremely crucial it is that we as Christians view ourselves through the eyes of our Creator, which may sound easy to do but can be difficult at times. Especially in modern day society where there appears to be a severe identity crisis.
I believe one of the major contributors to this is social media. While it has it’s benefits such as connecting us to family and friends from across the globe, it also has it’s downsides.
If you don’t know yourself social media can be a HUGE problem but what people don’t realize is what you see on social media is what people WANT you to see. You don’t always see behind the scenes, only the perfectly angled, flawlessly filtered, HD version of a captured moment.
As a Christian we can’t look to the world to tell us who we are or how we ought to live we have to look in the manual He left us. After all BIBLE does stand for:
One of my favourite scriptures is 1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
SOOOO MUCH GOING ON HERE. Let’s break it down:
- chosen means one who is the object of choice; deliberately selected as the best or most appropriate
- royal means having a status of king or queen or a member of the family
- a holy nation – the Lord has called us to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:15-16) of course with the assistance of the Helper
- peculiar- WHEWWW! Issa word! That word alone means to be different from what is considered ‘normal’. We know the we’re in the world but not of it (John 17:16)
When I received the revelation of who this scripture calls me to be I received confidence in the Christ in me. I started to believe Phil 3:14 that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me, I started to see that the assignment He gave me is not too big for me yet it’s bigger than me!
So when the world starts to tell you who they think you are I dare you to take a look in the scriptures, use it as a mirror to evaluate yourself!
